Weapons

Bokken and jō extend the body. Studying them sharpens distance, timing and precision in every empty-hand technique.

Bokken

Wooden sword, about 1.02–1.05 m, in red or white oak. It teaches a true cut, body alignment and distance.

Jō

A staff of about 1.26 m, in oak. Used from both ends, it links the techniques of sword, spear and body.

Tantō

Wooden knife, for studying defences against a short blade (tantō-dori).
